Bauhaus Edition - Everything starts from a dot.
Wassily Kandinsky, painter and lecturer at the Bauhaus school, summed it up neatly when he said: ‘Everything starts from a dot.’ This quote highlights the fact that for creative minds, the process of committing ideas to paper via the hand begins with a dot on the page. The first point of contact between thoughts and paper – a crucial moment.
Clean, minimalist forms, functional details and classic colours are key features of the modern era’s most influential design school – and also the principles that have always guided the design of LEUCHTTURM1917 products.
As a tribute to the revolutionary Bauhaus style, we have created a special edition that encompasses a notebook, Pen Loop and Drehgriffel and whose form, colour and details honour the pioneering Bauhaus ethos.
Drehgriffel Nr. 2 - Bauhaus Edition
The writing and drawing utensil’s mechanism is made in Germany – by pressing the twist button, the gripper at the tip opens and the lead is pushed out. When the twist button is released, the gripper closes again and holds the lead in place. Inside the Drehgriffel Nr. 2, a quiver holds several leads and pushes the next one down when the current lead is used up.
Drehgriffel Nr. 1 in Bauhaus-design
Inspired by 1920s-style design and featuring a hexagonal barrel and tapered tip, the Drehgriffel Nr. 1 is an unmistakable and iconic writing instrument. Its pared-back design and great functionality reflect the principles and idea of the Bauhaus school, which guided us when creating the Drehgriffel Nr. 1.
A subtle dot on the twist button reminds users of Kandinsky’s motivational saying ‘Everything starts from a dot’. The colour scheme is inspired by the richly contrasting image compositions of Piet Mondrian.
Notebook Bauhaus Edition
These notebooks stand our thanks to their coloured page edges and colour-matched dotted lines to provide inspiration. Embossed on the cover: Wassily Kandinsky’s quote ‘Everything starts from a dot’. For every visionary wanting to commit their best ideas to paper.
Pen Loop Bauhaus Edition
‘Play becomes joy ...’ – using colour to add playful highlights. As a painter, art historian and lecturer in colour at the Bauhaus school, Johannes Itten was unrivalled in his ability to create effective colour contrasts. The Pen Loop not only creates a highlight. Its function is also vital, as it holds together the notebook and writing instrument.
